Playing and Practice Seasons
The coaching staff is responsible for monitoring and self-reporting the hours per week that student-athletes participate and/or competition. A review of in-season and out-of-season activities and the maximum amount of time allowed is given to the coaches.
In-Season:
- Four hours per day, 20 hours per week are the maximum
- One day off per week is mandatory (can be a travel day)
- Practice, weight-training/conditioning, film/video review, required participation in a camp or clinic, non-voluntary individual workouts, captain's practices
Out-of-Season:
- Eight hours per week
- Weight-training/conditioning
- Physical education classes
- Individualized skill instruction
Pre-Season:
- 21 practice days before the first competition except volleyball (29 days)
Forms for reporting practice/competition hours handed out:
Countable Athletically Related Activities:
1.) Practice
2.) Competition (always counted as three hours - practice may not be conducted following competition except between rounds or events)
3.) Required weight-training/conditioning activities held at the direction or supervised by institutional supervisor
4.) Participation in a physical-fitness class conducted by a member of the athletic staff - unless open to all students
5.) Film or videotape reviews of athletics practices or contests required, supervised or monitored by staff member
6.) Required participation in camps, clinics or workshops
7.) Meetings initiated by coaches or other institutional staff members on athletically related matters
8.) Individual workouts required or supervised by a member of the coaching staff
9.) On-court or off-court activities called by any member of a team and confined primarily to members of that team (e.g. captain's practices)
Visiting the competition site in the sports of cross country, golf or skiing
