Lakers Fight Gannon to 1-1 Draw in Double Overtime

Erie, Pa. - On Saturday afternoon, the Mercyhurst Lakers fought the Gannon Knights to a 1-1 tie in a match which may prove crucial for post season play. Gannon is currently first in the GLIAC, while Mercyhurst is awaiting its final seeding in the conference championship playoffs next weekend. With the tie, the Lakers move to 7-9-3 on the year and 5-4-1 in the GLIAC. Gannon is now 14-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference.

In the first half, freshman Billy Colton scored his fifteenth goal of the year off of a penalty kick in the 39th minute of play. Colton is now 5-6 on penalty kicks.After halftime, Gannon came out firing and scored the tying goal only 41 seconds into the half.

Mercyhurst continued in grand fashion by out-shooting Gannon 22-19 and tallying 10 corner kicks to the Knight's five.

Junior goalkeeper Daniel Mudd had another spectacular game against the Knights and recorded seven saves on the day.

This match marked the end of the regular season for the Lakers. Mercyhurst will now await the announcement of the conference seeding. Fighting Mercyhurst for the third spot is Northwood who plays Saginaw Valley today.

The GLIAC championships begin on Nov. 1st at Gannon University.
