Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst sophomore forward Kurt Young was named Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Second Team Tuesday. Young had 11 goals and a team-high nine assists in 2007.

The team was voted on by sports information directors of the region, which is comprised of schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC), the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC).

Young started 19 of 20 games this year and finished second on the team with 11 goals and 31 points. He added three game-winning scores. In two seasons, Young now has 29 goals and 12 assists. He scored a season-high two goals in a crucial 5-3 win over Findlay, posting the first and last scores of the game.

Young was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2006 after scoring 18 goals, leading the conference in both goals and points. He set the school record for goals by a freshman.

Mercyhurst finished the year with a record of 7-10-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference. The Lakers advanced to the first GLIAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed, losing a heart-breaking overtime contest to rival Gannon in the semifinals.
