Wayne State Tops Lakers 6-3
March 30, 2008
Gross Pointe, Mich. - Ronald Heurich battled through a long day to win both singles and doubles matches, but the Mercyhurst men's tennis team lost for the second time during the weekend, dropping a 6-3 decision to Wayne State, ranked fifth in the region, Saturday. Heurich teamed with Kyle King to get an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles but that would be Mercyhurst's only point in doubles play. He then edged his way to a long three-set victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Kevin Turnbull in the closest of matches 7-6, 6-7, 7-6. Tim Hansson picked up the Lakers' only other victory, holding off Johan Maubacq at No. 1 singles 7-5, 7-5. Just a freshman, Hansson is 3-1 in conference play at No. 1 singles and 6-3 overall during the spring at that spot. Wayne State improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play as Mercyhurst falls to 5-6 and 1-3. The Lakers will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend to play Michigan Tech Saturday at 10 a.m. and Lake Superior State Sunday at 10 a.m. |
