Bridgeport, Pa. - Four Mercyhurst men's water polo athletes were recognized for their academic success Monday evening, as they were selected to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Academic Varsity team.

Earning Outstanding honors were Alex Moggridge and Ryan Holt. Andrew Schonhoff received a Superior honor, and Andy Sekulski earned an Excellent honor.

The teams were nominated by sports information directors and were required to be full-time students, active members of the team and earn a grade point average of at least 3.2 or higher. Student athletes were then separated into three levels: Excellent (3.2-3.4), Superior (3.41-3.7) and Outstanding (3.71-4.0).

Moggridge and Holt were two of just 24 student-athletes to earn Outstanding honors. To go along with their classroom success, Moggridge finished third on the team in goals with 26 and Holt--a graduate student--finished second on the team in steals with 46. Holt is now assistant head coach Curtis Robinette with the women's water polo team.

Schonhoff, a two-time All-American, was one of 40 student-athletes selected to received Excellent honors. In addition to being the first two-time All-American in Mercyhurst history, he finished second or led the team in goals, assists and drawn ejections. He is also the Mercyhurst career leader in goals after his junior year.

Sekulski joined 37 others that achieved Excellent honors. As a freshman, he emerged as the Lakers' starting goalkeeper and was named Division II First Team All-America by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. He was the first freshman in program history to earn that honor.

As a team, the Lakers finished the 2007 season with a school record 14 wins, won the Division II Eastern Championships and earned a second-straight CWPA Southern Division, Western Region regular season title.
