Sara Headley

Player Profile

Last College:
Robert Morris '99

Position:
Head Coach

Years at Mercyhurst:
3

Head Coach Sara Headley's fourth season at Mercyhurst was a successful one, as the Lakers set a school record for victories and posted the program's first .500 record since 2002. The squad also finished fifth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), its highest finish since joining the circuit in 1996.

Five Lakers were named to the All-GLIAC team and two players earned All-Great Lakes Region honors.

The achievements were an improvement upon a 2006 team that finished with a record of 17-30-0 and a conference mark of 5-15-0.

Prior to Mercyhurst, Headley served as the first assistant at Division I Florida International University. As one of two full-time coaches, she took an active role in nearly all facets of FIU's Division I program. She organized and ran all of the day camps and clinics as well as the school's spring and fall tournaments. Headley also assisted in recruiting, fundraising, and in developing and monitoring the team's strength and conditioning program. Her time on the field was primarily spent working with catchers and infielders as well as providing hitting instruction. The Florida International team made its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance in 2003.

Before coming to FIU, Headley spent two years as a graduate assistant at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree there in May 2001.

Headley played her college ball as a catcher at Robert Morris University where she earned a number of awards for her performance. She was named All-Northeast Region in 1997, selected to the All-Northeast Conference squads in 1997 and 1998, and was chosen NEC Academic Player of the Year in 1998. She graduated cum laude from Robert Morris in 1999 with a degree in Business Administration/Sport Management.
