Evansville, Ind. - Mercyhurst College senior outfielder Jessica McNurlen was named Daktronics First Team Softball All-Great Lakes Region in voting by the region's sports information directors. McNurlen led Mercyhurst in almost every offensive category and threatened to win the GLIAC's triple crown heading into the final week of the season.

McNurlen was one of 13 players named to the first team and received one of the three outfield spots. She started all 55 games for the Lakers in 2008 and led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in total bases, tied for second in runs scored home runs, and RBI, tied for third in hits and triples, and ranked sixth in slugging percentage. For the season, McNurlen hit .328 with eight homers and 36 RBI to go with nine doubles and five triples.

As a team, Mercyhurst broke the program record for wins in a season by going 25-30, beating last year's 23-23 mark. Head coach Sara Headley picked up her 100th career victory in the final game of the regular season and the Lakers advanced to the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 7 seed, eliminating No. 6 Northwood in the double-elimination tournament.
